The predecessor of CREEI can be traced back to the Hydropower Engineering Bureau of the Ministry of Fuel Industry established in 1950. As a first-class energy industry think tank in China with a history of over 70 years, it has been affiliated to the Ministry of Fuel Industry, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Electric Power, the State Power Corporation of China and PowerChina successively. As a wholly-owned secondary enterprise of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), SNPDRI Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as SNPDRI) was founded in 1958. It was established by 112 staff from the former Beijing Electric Power Design Institute and 30 employees from the Design Office of Shandong Electric Power Installation Company. In 2008, the company moved to Beijing as a whole and was renamed SNPDRI.

Founded in May 1958, Fujian Provincial Water Conservancy and Hydropower Survey, Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. is the largest comprehensive survey, design, consulting and research institution in Fujian Province. China Classification Society
Founded in 1956 and headquartered in Beijing, China Classification Society (CCS) is an institution directly under the Ministry of Transport, operating under an enterprise management model. As China’s ship technical inspection authority and the only professional institution engaged in ship classification survey business in China, it is a full member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS).
In accordance with relevant national laws, regulations, international conventions and rules, CCS provides technical specifications and standards for ships, offshore installations and related industrial products.
